TaeKwon-Do is a Korean martial art, originally founded by General Choi Hong Hi (1918-2002).
In Korean, tae means "to strike or break with foot", kwon means "to strike or break with fist", and do means "way" or "method". Therefore "TaeKwon-Do" is loosely translated as "the way of the foot and fist" or "the method of kicking and punching".
TaeKwon-Do's popularity has resulted in the varied development of the martial art into several domains. As with many other martial arts, it combines combat techniques, self-defense, sport, exercise, meditation and philosophy. TaeKwon-Do is also used by the South Korean military as part of its training and has become the national sport of South Korea.
We are a group called the Imperial TaeKwon-Do Association, headed by Master Trevor Nichols (8th Dan).
We are also affiliated to the International TaeKwon-Do Association, headed by Master Choi Jung Hwa (9th Dan).
The Imperial TaeKwon-Do Association of Scotland is headed by Miss Catherine Divine (5th Dan) Chief Instructor for Scotland and Mr Stuart Dutton (5th Dan) Secretary for Scotland.

We aim to improve your fitness, flexibility, co-ordination and self confidence.
TaeKwon-Do is for all ages; male and female.
It is a well-known fact that children who acquire self-confidence at an early age are far more likely to succeed in achieving their childhood ambitions as they grow into adulthood. Our classes for children are taught under the supervision of highly-skilled, experienced and fully qualified instructors who are registered with the British TaeKwon-Do Council, (BTC). We encourage each child to achieve his or her potential; learning new skills and making new friends along the way.
Our adult classes consist of structured training programs that can be tailored to the needs of each individual student and aim to improve physical fitness, boost self-confidence, and provide students with the knowledge and skills required for self protection.
The best way to find out more about TaeKwon-Do and the ITA is to pop along to one of our classes as a spectator or as a participant. Everybody is welcome.
